It’s not often that a former national body-builder walks into my studio, especially for a boudoir photo shoot! But that’s what happened with Eenee’s session. This story is about what to wear for a boudoir photo shoot, and I choose Eenee’s shoot to illustrate the options because she brought such a wonderful variety of outfits to her session.
Boyfriend takes the first step
It was Eenee’s boyfriend who initially contacted me to book her a boudoir photography shoot as a birthday gift. Eenee had frequently told him that it was something she really wanted to do, so he took action. However, when he told her the plan she was then filled with doubt about whether she could actually do it. How would she pose, what would she wear, what would she do with the photos, would she feel embarrassed etc. etc. Those are all very common worries for my clients, especially boudoir clients. Most people have never done this before, so I try to make the process as easy and fun as possible.
Designing your Dream Photo Shoot
Eenee started to think about what her dream boudoir photography shoot would look like. A week before the session, we had a video call to discuss the kind of looks that she wanted. She told me about her bodybuilding history when she lived in Mongolia, and said that she wanted to capture a photo of her back. We also talked about her hair and makeup, as well as the biggest topic: what to wear for her session.
Best tips on what lingerie to bring
There are many so answers to the question: what to wear for a boudoir photo shoot, and most of clients actually have more options than they realise! A selection from the following is what I normally advise:
- Two-piece bra set
- Full set with suspenders
- High-waisted panties
- White shirt
- Babydoll set
- Fabric – solid or sheer
- White sheet – for bed shots
- Flowers only
- Nude – for the fine art-type shots
Relax and enjoy the experience!
On the day, Eenee arrived from Lausanne Switzerland, with a suitcase of beautiful lingerie, some of it purchased just the day before. Nothing like a boudoir photo shoot for a reason to go shopping! She was a little shy at first but no sooner had she sat down for her makeover with Christine Pothier than her fears melted away.
It’s completely normal to feel a bit embarrassed or nervous at the beginning of a boudoir photography session. I do my best to help my client to relax, feel comfortable and enjoy every moment. I play her favourite music, provide snacks and drinks, and help her with her outfits. My client’s job is to enjoy this unique celebrity experience, designed just for her.
Here’s a little Before-After photo of Eenee: I took the first photo just after she arrived, and the second while she was in ‘full swing’ during her session!
Although I usually directly my clients throughout their session (showing them how to pose, what kind of expression to have etc.) Eenee was moving so naturally into her own poses. She was incredible in front of the camera, and I could see her confidence building during the shoot.
By the end of the boudoir photo shoot, Eenee was radiant, elated and confident. That is success for me – there really is nothing better than watching this incredible transformation in my clients. Building their confidence, reminding them how powerful they are, and elevating their self-esteem.

Something to Keep Forever
A few days after the shoot, Eenee and her boyfriend came back to my studio to look at her boudoir photos. He was such a sweetheart and said he wanted to buy her an album for her birthday present – sigh! Together they selected their favourite photos for the album, and their MOST favourite photo they ordered a print enlargement to hang on the wall. There were so many gorgeous photos of Eenee to choose from, but they managed it!
